| Nashik or Nasik is a city in Maharashtra, India. Nashik is located in the northwest of Maharashtra, 171nbsp;km from Mumbai and 210 km from Pune. Nashik is the administrative headquarters of Nashik district and Nashik Division. Nashik, which has been referred to as the "Wine Capital of India",[2] or as India’s Napa Valley, is located in the Western Ghats, on the western edge of the Deccan peninsula on the banks of the Godavari. In addition to supplying the name to the famed Nassak Diamond, the city is known for its picturesque surroundings and pleasant climate. The Godavari River flows through Nashik from its source, which lies to the southwest of the city, in Trimbakeshwar . Nashik Urban Agglomeration (Nashik UA) has a population of more than 1,629,769 according census 2011. and a total area of 264.23 km which makes it the fourth largest urban area in Maharashtra in terms of population and Area after Mumbai,Pune and Nagpur. Nashik is the third most industrialized city in Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune . |

Nashik is one of the world's holiest Hindu cities. Kumbh Mela is held here once in 12 years along with Ujjain, Allahabad and Haridwar in India. Lord Rama along with Lakshmana and Sita spent 4 months of his exile at Tapovan near Nashik. The city came under the rule of Mughal in 16th century and was renamed Gulshanabad. It is also noted for its participation in freedom struggle. Freedom fighters like Veer Savarkar and Anant Kanhere were born in Nashik.

plant is an aircraft manufacturing plant located 10 miles (16 km) from
Nashik employing about 7000 people. The Currency Note press and Security
Press is also in Nashik Road Prints Govt Stamp and Indian Currency.
Manufacturers who have set up plants in the Nashik MIDC area include: Bosch India - previously MICO Bosch, Mahindra and Mahindra, CEAT, Thyssen Krupp, Samsonite, Atlas Copco, Crompton Greaves, ABB, GlaxoSmithKline, Cipla, Glenmark pharmaceuticals, L&T, Schneider Electric, Jindal Steel, Garware, Gabriel India, Lear Corporation, Excello India, Kirloskar, IBP, Coca Cola, Siemens, Epcos, EATON, Shalimar Paints, Hindustan National Glass Ltd, Mylan Lab Ltd. Sharda Motors, Jyoti Structures,Cable Corporation Of India etc. few to name.
Recently the Government of Maharashtra decided to prepare IT parks in
the city of Nashik. Nashik is also emerging as a Business process
outsourcing(BPO/IT) destination and is in list of the selected Tier II
cities for BPO/IT companies. Currently there is One Private IT Park
Named Vascon IT Park, Another under construction at ambad named Anand
Mahindra IT Park. ESDS Software Ltd, GloStream and Hostigator India,
WNS, Winjit Technologies, I-Tech System, Netwin are few of the IT
Companies in Nashik.
IndiaBulls is setting up a Multipurpose SEZ at Sinnar near Nasik named Neocity SEZ
over an area of 2500 hectares. It is first and largest multipurpose SEZ
in Maharashtra. This will also increase a large number of industries. Nashik has Two Thermal Power Plants 1.NTPC Eklahare Nashik 2.Indiabulls
Power Ltd Sinnar also Suzlon energy has Windmill power generation in
Sinnar.
Recently Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Group is planning to step in
aerospace industry with nashik as its headquarters. Reliance is planning
an investment of 1 billion dollars.
Nashik also has some textile industries.In remote areas like Surgana
Block, many tribals are engaged in Carpet weaving. Export quality
carpets are prepared in and around Umbarthan (Tal. Surgana) NABARD has
selected Yeola Block for Development of Paithani Cluster. Nashik has
also witnessed electronic development in the recent times. A software
Technology Park (STP) is established in Nashik. The city has already
registered many websites.Also recently some officers from UK and China
visited Nashik as They are interested to make investments in Nashik.
